Just recently my dekstop pc, a Compaq Presario has crashed. I do not have any disks for the recovery. I have called Compaq Support and they said I must buy disks. This doesn't seem to fair to me.

Try bashing F10 a few times while the Compaq logo is on the screen. Compaq like to put the recovery software on the hard drive now, assuming that its not that that's gone.
