Windows blackout

I am having frequent screen freezes followed by a screen blackout for about 5 seconds. The system then recovers and continues normally. This happens when I am running Macromedia MX2004 or when I am running a web "tutorial" (especially the macromedia types) on line. I usually have Outlook running in back, IE and Firefox on when I am developing web code in Studio MX.

My CPU monitor frequently shows 100% usage.

Kit: Advent 3491 box from - er - PC World - XP Pro SP2 fully patched, 1 Gb Ram, AMD Athlon 64 with Nividia G-Force FX; Norton Systemworks 2004 and Spysweeper. Advent 19" flat sceen.

Lots of posts like this have appeared on the net but no real solutions - but this is not a laptop suffering blue screen of death syndrome!
