I've been using you guys for viruses (and recently building a computer)(Thanks so much on all of this as well!!! ) and just saw that ya'll also do this with networking so I thought I'd ask for your help on it as well. We have a D-Link DI-624 Wireless router conecting to a Bellsouth DSL modem. I've got it set up as a bridge modem, but over the last couple of weeks (right after we had an ice storm that messed with the power) it starts dropping the connection. What I mean is that all of a sudden for a minuter or longer the wireless connection suddenly disappears. The router keeps saying that the IP (I think is what it is) is released and then a minute or so later it reconnects it. I didn't know if you guys knew anything I might be able to do. Thanks for any help you can provide and all the help you've given in the past.

Hi shupinga, and welcome back to GeeksToGo!

Your problem could very well be the result of a power issue, however please run a few tests first to ensure that it is not a software issue.

Could you please goto Start, Run, type EVENTVWR and press 'OK'. Under the System and Applications logs, please look for any errors (denoted by a red circle with a white X) or warnings (yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark).

If you find any errors or warnings, please double click on them (one by one), and then copy and paste the information onto this forum.

Goto Start, Run, type CMD, press 'OK' and then type: IPCONFIG /ALL - please post the results here by right-clicking on the Command Prompt window, selecting 'Select All', pressing Ctrl+C, and then posting on this forum.

Please goto Start, Run, type CMD and press 'OK' - now type: netstat -rn and press enter; please post the results here.

Test your Network
1. Goto Start, Run, type: NETSH DIAG GUI - press 'OK'. A Command Prompt window will open temporarily; don't touch it, it will disappear in a moment.
2. A Microsoft Help and Support window will then open; select the option 'Scan your system'.
3. Wait for the scan to finish and then scroll down to the heading 'Modems and Network Adapters'. Look at 'Network Adapters' (don't expand it yet). Beside your connection information, you should see a green 'PASSED'; if you do not (if you see a red 'FAILED') then expand 'Network Adapters', scroll down the list until you see the heading with the 'FAILED', expand that option and copy and paste the results here.
In the NETSH DIAG GUI, you should be looking for any red 'FAILED', however the key one is Network Adapters for you. If you see any other red FAILED, expand the component and copy the results.

Goto Start, Run, type CMD, press 'OK' and then perform a Trace route by typing: Tracert location - ie: Tracert Yahoo.com
Once the trace has completed, please post the results here by right-clicking on the window, selecting 'Select All', and then pressing Ctrl+C; post the results here.

Thanks,
Dan.

Okay thanks for the reply and here's everything in the order you listed:

Shupinga,

Does this error occur often: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts. (does it seem to co-incide with the loss of connection)?

If so, please download this Patcher (the english version; top link). Run it (choose to increase the limit to 50). Then restart your computer. Test your connection.

Could you please also download (if you do not already have it) and run HijackThis. Perform a scan on your system, and then open the log; from the log, could you please copy all of the running processes, and post them on your next reply (I don't need/want the whole HJT log).

Thank you,
Dan.
