Logging onto my desktop computer from my laptop computer

Good evening
I am a newbie. I don't know if this is possible. I am a mother of an 11 year old who likes to spend time on the computer especially the internet. I wanted to know if there is any way to be able to log onto her desktop from my laptop while she is on it. Help!
