DVD burner won't act like DVD burner

My DVD burner says it is dvd until I put a blank dvd into it and then it switches and says it is cd and it won't burn a dvd. It is a memorex double layer 16x. Help. It is driving me nuts. :tazz:

What burner are you using? and what software? R U sure its a 16x DL? cause i don't think the burners can handle them....
