Ok, I had winfix recently, hate dealing with logs so just thought save/reformat/reinstall/load as an answer but unlike normally this time after reformating the new reinstall of windows xp home os did take even when I tried a second one in French, so I thought it could be the harddrive so I tried it with another harddrive(same result), so if it is not the XP nor the harddrive, what is stopping me loading the os then?

Is the installation halting at the exact same point each time?
Could you also give us your system specs please?

OK, try changing the CDROM drive and if possible, the ribbon cable also.
If this doesn't help, then let me know what the system specs are.
