Spyware. Some say it's been around since the beginning of time, bringing forth many great prehistoric battles... through all of history, men and women have joined together to combat the dark menace, falling one by one until anger and blood-shot eyes covered the country side. It was only then that they arrived, armed with only a keyboard and perhaps a light beverage, to free the disgruntled and discouraged masses...

...but most people will agree that it's just the product of bored hackers and malicious companies, and that's not any fun is it?

Ancient lore aside, i'm up to my elbows in errors and "winn4r of fre ipud" pop ups. I had been trying to fix it all on my own till my sound drivers completely vanished, and I could no longer access my music folder (or any other folder, for that matter).

My browser had been hijacked for quite awhile, on and off, and usually preforming alright. Spyware Doctor had been helping out a good deal, but still not really cleaning up. It seemed as if I was just gonna have to live with it, and then one day, Dr Watson came to visit.

It was a nice enough day I suppose, and I was casually looking through the pictures from my last school dance when suddenly, out of no where, everything pretty much freezes, resulting in many a raised eyebrow and an eventual alt+ctrl+delete, which is where I discovered the medical meanace.

"Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger" rang through my head again and again. What could this mean? What happens next? Will my computer ever be the same again? Will I have to reformat? Will Seinfeld ever come back? What was the deal with sand-art, anyway?

and most importantly... "WILL ANYBODY HELP ME?"

Then I ran into a post by you folks, and I was totally reassured that someway, somehow, you could set things right again in the world of my PC...

To help make things a little easier, i'm gonna reboot since ive just used Spyware Doctor. Also, I have used Spybot SD MANY times, and dabbled in Ad-Aware.

From what I know, the spyware problems stem primarily from an about.blank trojan that spawns essentially every other noticable piece of malware of my system, judging by the logs ive read. However, im completely certain that the DrWatson problem (something plaguing many of the posters here, ive noticed) is largely independent of the spyware, and according to other websites, many not be a result of spyware at all, but rather an error in the newly released SP2.

Ive always ran a pretty clean PC, its only gotten out of hand recently, and im very anxious to fix it anyway I can.

Alrighty, after a restart heres how my log looks (probably not too much different)

By the way, i've used AntiVirXP several times, which is the equivalent of the scanners listed on your site- with the exception of the Trend scanner which results in an internet explorer addon error within the .dll everytime I try and use it... which is prolly a malware issue, heheh, which kind of shows you the sort of Catch-22 i'm in.

I've done extensive work to try and fix this myself, and have came here knowing that I really really need help, and that if left alone with my PC much longer serious damage could be inflicted (by me) upon my poor registry.

Anyway, heres the log and then i've got to get going for the night. I once again appreciate even the slightest word of advice to point me in the right direction, heheh. And as for Doc Wat, i'm hoping that I can kill two birds with one stone, otherwise i'll try reinstalling SP2, but ive gotta get my system clean first!

I was able to fix it! Not only is Dr. Watson gone, but so is a great deal of malware that previously plagued my computer? How did I do it alone? Simple, I just followed the leads from several other threads, using all the programs recommended, and also learnt the basics of HiJackIt. Armed with only moderate knowledge, I was able to singlehandidly restore my PC to almost like-new condition. Now all i've gotta do is keep it from happening again!

You can do it on your own folks, its not nearly as hard as it looks :tazz:

Good luck (and maybe ill pop in now and then to give my own advice, hehehe)
