Computer taking a while to startup

*** i haven't been able to start my computer in safe mode for a while now, not sure if it has anything to do with something that can be removed with HijackThis

A little off-time, but nevertheless. You can safely remove 4/5 of all that rubbish from your registry without experiencing any substantial changes to programs linked with them. I'm surprised that your PC even starts up at all.

Safemode loads only the necessary stuff required for minimal operation of Win, diagnostics, fault-finding etc, and so if you have trouble booting up in it, then it might as well be that one or some of those residents have over-written your sectors where instructions for safemode are normally stored. Not that I'm an expert, just speculation. But like I said, edit your registry, run msconfig or something, clear that bull.

Thank you. However, I really do not understand how to fix what you speak of. My computer takes FOREVER to load.... Anyway, If I could have some more specific help, that'd be great.

Type the word 'regedit' in MSDOS prompt. Open everything to reach the 'Run' key:

To the right of the divider is a table listing the names (and paths) of every 3rd party component that Windows's loading on start-up. See what you need, like LEXBCES.EXE or wltrysvc.exe (I suppose you need that network stuff, do you?). Leave them alone. Simply delete the reset by selecting a name and pressing delete. CAUTION Be very careful not to erase something that you're using often a times (an antivirus, for instance), or else you'll have to pass the hassle of manually reconfiguring the wares. If I were you, I'd take out:
Ati2evxx.exe
realsched.exe
mdm.exe (developing anything?)
qttask.exe
OneTouch.exe
iPodService.exe
NkvMon.exe
....things of the sort, you know? Mybe that would free some of your resources, and what's for sure, you'll start faster. (Go to http://www.processlibrary.com and see process info for yourself.) Why would you like to start in safemode, by the way? What happens when you try? Nothing, carries on loading XP? If so then (besides the pest-hypothesis) believe me, SP2 is strange (I reinstalled Sp1 after I tried SP2). Could be the cause.
