I had been having computer problems for some time. Had to get a back-up hard drive installed due to corrupted system software (XP Home). At the time I was unable to use either CD/DVD drive, internet, or set up a network to trnasfer the files. I moved all of my files to the additional hard drive. I also moved the original Windows update files I had installed.

The plan was to run a system restore on hard drive C. When i recently tried to start the computer, I received the system disk missing error. Was told to replace it and hit any key. The computer did not come with an XP home system disk. i only received two system restore disks, and a driver disk.

I have tried to start the computer in safe mode and regular mode with no luck numerous times. Also tried starting it with the first system restore disk in, but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How did you move the files over? New disks have to be partitioned and formatted first. Did you do that? Or, most new hard drives come with software that allows data to by copied from an old drive to a new drive bit for bit.

The new drive was formatted and partioned by the shop where it was installed. They told me to manually move the data files, which I did. The files I moved were all document and image files.

Sounds like the new hard drive didn't solve your problems. Did you have any anti-virus software installed? I suspect a virus may have been responsible for your original problems, and since it may have never been removed from the old drive, it affected the new drive as well.

You should be able to use the restore disks to reformat and reinstall to the new hard drive. First, physically disconnect the old hard drive, restore the new one, install anti-virus software (AVG is free: http://www.grisoft.c..._dwnl_free.php), then reconnect the old drive and scan it for viruses.

You could also have a hardware problems causing data corruption. I'd feel confident returning it to the shop--since they didn't seem to correct your original problem.

When I first had DSL installed I downlaoded the new updates from Windows. At the time MSblast got injto the computer. I used Nortens MSBlast removal program. I also have AGV installed on the computer. It was installed from the start. There were many display problems after MsBlast got into the computer. I was able to fix those eventually.

I had manually set the security level to high, but somehow someone invaided the computer. I was able to remove thier computer, and those of their friends.

One fo the major problems with the computer was that it eventually did not acknowledge either CD drive or the internet settings. Since the new drive was installed the computer has not been connected to the internet.

I will be working more on solving this in the next couple of days.
