My CD-ROM drive recently stopped working and will not recognize any cd disk. Prior to this happening, I did not install any new programs or updates and the Device Manager tells me it is fully functional. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

Is the drive shown in my computer?
When you put a cd in does the light flash?
Can you get into setup/bios and see if the drive is recognized there?

Hi Rick.

Yes, the drive is shown in My Computer. When I insert a cd, the light remains on but turns off after a few seconds. As far as I know, the drive is recognized as hardware under Sounds and Audio Devices. I've had this drive for about 3 years. Could it really need replacing already?

Thanks.
