Hello,

There are 3 computers in my house, and have a Netgear Router (WGR614). Right now, the connection is unsecured. I have been trying to figure out how to secure the network properly as I think others have been using our internet. I have tried reading articles online and searching forums but have come up empty handed and even more confused. I have read about WEP encryption as well as MAC filtering. Can someone please guide me how to properly secure the network ?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

To enable security please follow the steps :

1.Log in to router web interface using http:\\192.168.0.1 or http:\\192.168.1.1 (depending upon the ip address of the router)
2.username : admin ,Password : password (unless changed)
3.Click wireless settings under setup
4.Make security as WEP
5.Security type : automatic
6.Encryption strength : 64 bit
7.Put a check mark on key 1 & typein any 10 digit key & apply the settings.
8.Then from your wireless computer try connecting to your wireless network which will prompt you to enter the wep key.Just enter the 10 digit key & confirm the same and click connect.
9.Now you have enabled wep for your wireless network and it's secure.

Its good to see  that you are offering advice on the forums here, but just a word to the wise.....do check the age of the topic and the dates of the posts.... as you are posting potential solutions to topics that are 7 or 8 or sometimes 10 years old.....

 

Don't be disheartened though, but do check the dates!

to be honest paws i think they are just spamming, and the links being posted need further looking into, all seem to have the same telephone number even though they are supposed to be for different tech support sites.

eg.

d-link :- spam link removed

netgear :- spam link removed

belkin :- spam link removed.

to be honest paws, i think i'd look into it anyway, and delete all links and phone numbers already posted.

from the sounds of them you phone them up, then they take control of your pc and fix things,

from a supposed testimonial.

 

it is so simple for D-link to share to share my computer screen and fixed it.

and we all know what that usually means, malware, forced selling (or whatever it's called.) ransom demands. etc. etc.
