Start up and internet

each and every time I start up I get a message that says somthing like Windows cannot find C;/ programe check name is typed correctly and try again ALSO before i can use the internet after starting up I have to unplug my modem and start again.
I have checked with NTL who assure me modem is working correctly.
I use NTL broadband with a cable modem

Can any one help
