Aptiva 2170 startup problems

My Aptiva 2170 will not start... a equipment configuration problem will appear at startup and I've checked the Bios information and everything appears to be okay. Trying to reinstall Windows 2000 and start from scratch because computer seemed to have been infected with a virus. Now cannot get it to even start after reformating HD. Help!!!!

Use either the floppy or CD version

Use the highest option avaliable, which will take hours but will clear the drive comprehensively
