Unable to load windows 98SE on new hard drive.
Have Think Pad T30, Replace hard drive with Samsung 40G.
Tried using the Installing Windows Tutorial. Used MS98 SE and keeps coming up with C:\. I am unable to get to Boot screen.
Then used PC Beginner Utilities 2005 and portioned and formatted the HD as shown in tutorial. Came up with Verifying 38,15,34M. 38,145,000 MB
Tired using Win 98SE again and it comes up invalid system disk, tired a Win98SE Boot disk from bootdisk.com and still Invalid system disk.
Any Suggestion ? :tazz:

Check the boot order again to check it saved, if it did and still won't load from the CD ROM then use Boot and Nuke to comprehensively clear the drive

http://dban.sourceforge.net/

Can you post in exactly what it does do from booting with the 98CD in the drive to the error message

Boot the PC and go to BIOS set up to load BIOS defaults, if it still does not load from the CD then use Boot and Nuke to clear the drive

Didnt use Boot and Nuke yet. Comphop suggested. Use Fdisk and check if it show fat 32. It did escaped to A:, then I typed sys c;, it then showed system transferred. Rebooted with 98SE CD. Now it comes up with Microsoft Windows 98, copywrite etc. C:\. I then cvheck Dir and it shows Command.com 92,292, 1 file, o dirs, 38,144,000 MB free.
Now how do I get the CD to load.
Thanks for the help

If it stops at a command prompt then setup.exe should do something, if not, you can go with boot and nuke, then a windows CD has to see it as a new drive

Used Boot and Nuke - DOD 3 pass
Made sure Bios was Floppy-CD-HD. Now I get
Intel Boot Agent Version 4.1.07
Copywrite 97-2002 Intel
Intel Base Code PXE2.1 build 083, Copy Write 97-02,
PXE-61 Media Test Failure check cable, PXE-MoF exiting intel boot agent

Changed to CD HD and the results are still the same. I double checked bios to make sure it was saved correctly and it was.
Addition info.
Used PC Beginner to boot . Then I was able to change to d:\. Replace CD with Win98 CD. was able to read dir and went to D:\setup. Got the following
Please wait while setup initalizes, scanning sys registery.
cannot creat temp DIR, If you have HPFS or NTFS installed on you HD you will need to creat MS Dos boot partition to setup windows.
Tried to reboot so I could follow windows tutorial and it will not comes back no OS.

I hope this makes scense to you.
