Firefox - Running slow

My Firefox browser is considerably slower than my IE6, especially when there are lots of images rather than text.

Is this normal for Firefox? Are there settings to adjust or anything that may be causing it to run slow?

This is non-urgent query, so no hurry!

Should be faster than IE6 by a noticable margin for most folks, have you tried re downloading and reinstalling it.
