linux install size?

I'm interested in installing linux on an old computer of mine that already has windows 2k. i have partition magic that can create another partition that I would like to install linux on. about how big of a partition would i need?

It all depends on which distro you want to install. There is one that is called damnsmall which is only 50mbs and then there are ones that require 6 CDs which have about 600mb's per CD. Check this website out http://www.distrowatch.com Scroll down to the right.

Naw, its less than that. I'd say about 2 gigs. I have an 8 gig hard drive. 2 partitions of 4 gigs, (root and home). I've used about 60% of the root gig.

Ubuntu uses 1.8 gig for a full install, swap included. It's all on one 700MB cd or you can get the DVD version. I run mine on a 5gig HDD and still have plenty of room to work with.
