yes, the repair will work when you get a disk...I missed the fact that it was a DELL...otherwise, I might suggest trying any old Windows Disk, but Dells are sometimes hardcoded for their hardware....

Time was Dell made good, flexible stuff, but now they're no better than hp, compaq, emachines, gateway....sigh...

http://support.dell....&c=us&cs=&s=gen check here about halfway down the page there is a portion called "Perform a PC Restore of the operating system." it says "Dell PC Restore by Symantec is available on Dimension and Inspiron systems that shipped on or after 7/16/2004 in the Americas and 8/30/2004 in Europe." does your computer meet those criteria?
