Turn on my computer and get a black screen that tells me that Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to the system. Try to boot up in Safe Mode and recieve this dreaded BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH with the error message "Unmountable_boot_volume."
I rebooted the computer using the Windows XP Reinstallation disk and ran the CHKDSK /R and it came back with the message that there are 1 or more errors on the drive. I then ran a hard drive diagnostics test, and it returned the following information:

Drive 0: Maxtor 6Y080M0 - Fail. Return Code: 7
Drive 2: Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-352F - Diagnostics not supported

I have not run any other CHKDSK commands.
Is there anything I can do at this point to save my hard drive, or is everything lost, meaningless, hopeless, and grey?

Yeah that return code 7 has deemed that your drive has failed....So pretty much call dell if your in warranty and if not time for a new drive. Sorry Doll
