does the same occur with other usb devices? It sounds morelike a bad device than a windows issue

I think your right because my other MP3 player works fine. Is there anyway to re fromat the Vibe player from windows.

is the player still under warranty? if it is...it may be in your best interest to contact pny support...this may be a known issue that they have a sollution to already..
