Hi,

It happens a few times that while I am on the explorer cursor simple disappear and everything frizzes, so I have reboot the comp manually.

That’s first, and second: twice I did that it reboot itself but with completely black screen (as it didn’t start itself). Both time I have unplug comp and screen from the electricity and everything was fine.

There is no any mistake on event log.
For the info: I have all utilities as you advised in malware forum, and run (and update) them regulary and I don’t have any problems in that department.

What can cause these frizzing.

Update for my previous post:

This happens first time while I have played chess on yahoo games. For playing the chess I have downloaded java from the sun.

While playing mouse just freezes, cursor disappears, and I have to reboot it.

This doesn’t happen very often, lets say once a week (but I am playing chess almost every day).

Download and install Everest Home Edition

Run the programme, click + next to computer then summary

Look on right for display / video adapter

Look at the manufacturer’s site for the suitable drivers for your Operating System

If you are unable to find them, please post the make and model here before you download anything

Please set a system restore point before you install anything

at this point i didnt do anything yet, as i would like your advice:
sometime ago i had the problem with this freezings - and that was my first question on G2G few months ago - so at that time, when i updated the driver from the net, i had always errors something like avd2something-like-that with bsod. you can undrestand that i am not confident to do any mistakes (last time it cost me a lot of money).

for the info, in device manager i have two yellows:
- in other devices: Ethernet Controller (with ? mark - to be true i dont know what is ethernet controller)
- in SCSI and RAID controllers: Mass Storage Controller (without ? mark)
i dont know is this relevant to the problem i have.

If you get the latest drivers from ATI (version 6.1 - file size 34MB) download them to a folder, also download the cat uninstaller, run that, reboot and then install the new ones from the folder, you need .net framework installed to run Radeon software

can you advice please.

Click the link in your post, click windows xp drivers and software, click Radeon, click catalyst 6.1 windows XP drivers download

That gets you to here

Click catalyst uninstaller and save it to a folder you create in my documents

Then scroll down the page to here

Get download 1 if you do not have .net framework or download 2 if you already have this, save the download to the same folder

Run cat uninstaller, you will need to reboot, the display will be very basic, go to the folder you saved the drivers to then:

Install .net framework if you need to then install the radeon drivers

If you already have .net framework, install the radeon drivers

Click start then control panel then add / remove then scrol down to look for it

You can also go to Microsoft Update, if it offers .net framework 2 as an optional then you already have 1.1

Version 2 works with Office XP, I could not get it to work with business contact manager for Office 2003 so only get version to if you do not have that

hi Keith and thanks for advice.

i have done as you said and everything looks OK.

however, when i reboot the comp after the instalation, i have a screen as to log myself - before windows just starts itself directly to desktop. so can i maybe somehow disable the first screen when hx load itself.
i mean this is not a big issue, but as i am only user on this comp there is no need for something like this.

If you go to Microsoft Update and it should / will offer service pack one for .net framework, then you need to go back and get the service pack for the service pack then you will need to reboot and it should be fine then

after instaling ATI zone alarm keep asking for CLI Application (Command Line Interfece), should i just shut it down or shoud i allow the access?

i am not quite sure how you guys know all this staff, but every time i have ask any question the answer was there. thank you.

You need to tick the remember this decision and then click allow

You can click allow without the tick but it will want to access the internet every time you boot otherwise

It is a safe application
