I am having a problem with XP. When I go into My Computer, my CD/DVD Writeable Drive is showing a Smart Media Icon. Is there any way to change it back? It still works, but just annoying.

Start > run
regedit
<enter>

navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\driveicons

Choose the DRIVEICONS folder

Right click, choose export, name it badicon.reg

then delete the folder (right click > delete)

reboot

fix?

the DRIVEICONS folder

(see SELECT driveicons folder)

save it where you can find it....desktop, my folders...doesn't matter

First, if it's even there,it's likely the problem as the folder does not exist unless you customize the drive icon

we only backup the reg file so we can return to this state
