Usb game controller error

when playing my game my usb game controller gets errors lately, ill hear a ding dong, and it will stop responding, then the same sound again, sometimes i have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to work, i have teh virus scanners provided by this site, all of them and im sure its not that.. whats wrong?

I would start by trying to load the most recent drivers for the controller, if there is a driver

Next, I would go to device manager and remove all of my USB devices, then reboot...windows will reinstall them on reboot

If that fails, I would not be even a little surprised if the controller was dying...those things take a lot of abuse
