How do I know if its really clean + shred or not shred?

I followed the advice of "click here before posting a Hijack this log and downloaded the free version of AVG and Ewido. The Ewido really did a number on cleaning up over 90% of the problem while AVG did the rest -- over 220 problem areas. Question is How do I know that I am truly safe? and, Do I need to dowload the CSW? shredder?
