On computer HEN, please type the following:

cacls "H:\my documents\my music" /g everyone:f -- you should be prompted for y/n as you were on Joes. Once done, try to access files both ways. Also, restart both computers into safe mode with networking again, and also try to share files.

Hi
Ok i tried the cacls thing, and it asked y/n and i said yes. I am not posting is safe mode (jumbo vision) but no luck - still cant share.

My brother tells me.... that zonealarms did an 'update' recently. And this seems to coincide with the timings i started to get the errors.... but how could this affect comms between the other computers that dont even have a firewall?

Thanks guys.

This is what I thought might have occurred, and that's why I have been asking you to restart into Safe Mode; however it doesn't seem to be helping, and as you say, the firewall shouldn't be interfering with the other computer's.

Are you on a wired Network? How is your network setup? Are you going through a router? A switch? A hub? If it's a router, what make/model is it?

Hi,
I know that there was a reason that I asked you to post the make/model of your router, but I can't for the life of me remember why :tazz:

Please goto Start --> Run --> type EVENTVWR and press OK --> Now, look under the System log for any errors and/or warnings. If you find any, please post the relevant heading, along with the details inside by double clicking on the error/warning, and then copy/pasting the information from within.

Did anyone change any of your router settings before this problem started to occur?

On all of the computers, please do the following:
Try WinsockFix. Once run, reboot and test your connection.

If that fails, please goto Start, Run, type CMD, press 'OK', then do the following:
1. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

2. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot and test.

Thanks,
Dan.

I have had the same problem in the past with workgroups and a restart would normally clear it up. Just resently I was working on a friends network and had all computers seeing each other and sharing files fine. I walked away for 5 min. and all of a sudden the PC's didn't see each other in "Comp near me". They could ping just fine via IP but not host name. I played around with it and finally changed the workgroup name on all of them and they could then see each other. They are all Win 2k machines and did have ZoneAlarm installed (I disabled it during troubleshooting).

A DEVELOPMENT!!!!

I have been able to access computer 'HENS' By going to start - run - typing 10.10.10.1 and it gives me access!

This is great but i still cant get in via workgroups or shared folders, or via computer name not IP.
