Morning guys,
I need your help once again.

I'm having difficulty (ie I can't) booting into safe mode..

most of the walk throughs for spyware removal say i need to boot in safe mode to enable deletion of all rouge files, as i can't do this i manage to clear most of the junk but the last file won't go, so upon reboot everything (spyware etc comes back)

IIRC there is a different method for entering safe mode if running XP pro (as I am) is this true? if it is waht is it?

thanks in advance

First question is how do you usually get into safe mode?

Don't know! :tazz: I have never had to before

tried F8 all it brings up is a list of boot devices!

Floppy
CD RW
DVD ROM
HDD

only option that works is HDD, all others say invalid boot media,
then it just goes on to boot as normal

BTW if it helps my mobo is asus A8V shouldn't make any difference but that board has been a disaster from start to finish.

After the first splash screen where you see the memory test and the option to enter the bios thats when you should start hitting F8.

Don't stop till you get something, its unusual for a pc to use something other than F8 but it is possible.

Try the above a couple of times before giving up sometimes timing is difficult in entering safe mode.

While your doing that I will look for alternatives to F8.

tried that, the bios has a mock "GUI" so you don't see the mem test etc...... have tried fiddling about with the bios to get rid but can't find the right settings................

is there anyway to get to it via XP, tried msconfig, but the selective start up option doesn't work, still unable to deleate that final file.

There is another way

Start/
run/
msconfig/
boot.ini tab/

Put a check in the safeboot option
click ok and restart

booting takes at least twice as long as a normal boot.
