slight problem:
we bought this computer with windows xp already installed into it,or whatever.and were not even sure if it came with the xp home edition cd,so when i do that last step,it requires me to insert the cd...and i dont have it.

Then you can't do that step we can move on to some settings.

open IE
tools/
internet options/
programs/
manage add-ons button/

Do you see any entries in there for Shockwave/Flash?

if so highlight it and make sure its enabled down the bottom.

I am down to my last suggestion I am afraid
reinstall IE

Internet Explorer

On the right of this page there is a link titled
Download
Get the latest version for your PC.

Click it download IE for a fresh install.

If that doesn't fix it then I am stumped.

so what im pretty much doing is checking for updates on my computer,or is this specifically targeted to reodnwload IE?

Its targetted at IE but it will search for any other needed upgrades.
any of the missing updates could be causing this problem.

SP2 and IE are the most likely culprits thou.

You can do it manually
