Step 5: Restoring sound drivers
Use the HP or Compaq application recovery process to restore individual drivers for your original PC sound hardware. This software utility is part of the recovery software and can be used to restore drivers and software. You can find this application in the start menu under HP Tools, HP Help & tools, Compaq, or Compaq Tools. For more information, refer to HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Obtaining Software and Drivers .
Restart the computer after restoring the sound driver software and test for sound. If there is still no sound, continue to the next Step.
Step 6: Installing an updated sound driver
Search HP's Support Web site to find updated sound driver software. Type the name of the PC model exactly as it appears on the case of the PC. Read the instructions on the download pages carefully before installing the drivers.
If there are no updated sound drivers available from HP, use Microsoft's Windows Update feature to see if Microsoft has the drivers listed. Connect to the Internet and go to the Windows Update site . Follow the instruction on the Web pages. For more information about how to use Windows Update refer to: HP and Compaq PCs - Updating Drivers and Software with Windows Update .
If either Web site does not contain updated drivers, continue to the next Step.
