Giving the error message, rather than just saying you get a message, would be helpful

Two main reasons for this one...first, the new memory. Remove it, reinsert the old memory. Will it install now?
Second, a device that is not compatible with Windows XP
What else might you have installed?

Reinserted old memory.... will now load Windows 2000 and start installing... then blue screens afer it starts deleting the installation files. Nothing new added.

man, they have completely erased that PC from the IBM site...I was hoping for a bios upgrade or something, but cannot find it anywhere.
Can you check the memory -- even the old stuff -- and tell me, are their memory modules on both sides of the stick?
I recently ran into a machine from around this era that simply would not install windows xp with double sided dimms...I am wondering if you are in a similar situation
Also, in bios, can you disable any kind of caching? Can you disable the l2 cache for example.
I fear that this machine simply is not compatible with win2k
btw--this win2k disk---is it an original, sp2, sp2 or sp3 or sp4?
