My husband deleted our internal sound card. We are not sure how. I have gone to the deleted items file but can't find it. He was deleting files that he downloaded at the time it was lost. We have tried restoring these but still do not have any sound on our computer. We have a Dell OptiPlex GX200 pentium II processor. I have tried going to the Dell website but have been unable to find a new sound card that would download. I was told by one of our local computer stores I should be able to download a new one free from Dell. Can you tell me how to fix this problem.

Hi Vie

Please go into your control panel

My Computer/
Control Panel/
system/
device manager/

Look for any yellow ! or ?

Post them here please.

Then go here and download Everest Home

Everest

Scan your system and attach the log to this post, there are several audio configurations for your Dell and I need to make sure I link you to the right driver.

Once you have it running, click on REPORT and the Report Wizard should run. When you come to the REPORT PROFILES page of the wizard, make sure you have radio button next to System Summary Only selected. Then click NEXT, you can leave HTML selected and click FINISH. The report will then be generated and a new window will appear. In this new window that appears, click SAVE TO FILE and save the report as REPORT.HTM somewhere on your computer where you will remember its location. Please attach this file to your reply.

Now remember to ADD THE FILE AS AN ATTACHMENT and not just copy/paste it in your next reply

In order to attach a file on the bottom of your post you will see a file attachment box

click browse and find the file on your computer then click add this attachment.

I have another idea Vie.

Can you open your Everest log and scroll down a little bit till you find a entry that looks like this

Multimedia:
Audio Adapter xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The X's will be your sound device, can you please post here what that is.

Hi Vie

That message means that the drivers for this soundcard are still on your system.

Please do this.

start/
control panel/
system/
device manager/
double left click the sound video and game controllers/
right click the entry that says intell intergrated sound/
Click the driver tab/
choose to reinstall the driver/

Let me know how you go.

Since that didn't work we need to update the current InstallShield Engine (ikernel)

Please follow these instructions

start/
search/find
files or folders/

search for ikernel.exe

once you have found it the file path will look similar to this

C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32

Please right click on it and choose delete to remove the file.

Download a new installshield from here

InstallShield

Run the program and install a new install shield

Then reinstall the driver file from the one you downloaded earlier.

Let me know how you go.
