How do you connect to the internet
Dial up or broadband
Do you have a program Quarterdeck CleanSweep Deluxe on the machine
On the 98 machine go to this link using internet explorer and download
Dun upgrade
Reboot - you may get the error message again because the download has not registerd before the reboot
after the first reboot shut down, any better?

RNAAPP (Remote Network Access Application)

Peterm

The machine with 98 is a secondary machine and not connected at the moment to the net.

i don't have a program called Quarterdeck CleanSweep Deluxe .

Apart from that error message , would you say you have resolved the problem?

Do we not need config.sys and autobat.exec ?

Is the cd working is everything else working ?
If yes then you do not need autoexec & config these are files to help run old Dos legacy programs.
I do not consider the problem to be fixed for 2 reasons
1) if that download does not fix your close down error message then you may still have a corrupt MSVCRT.DLL
2) Any computer that shows an error message in my opion is not fixed
and we have not done our job right.

Did you download the patch ?
Are you going to connect this computer to the internet or network it ?
