WMP not working

I have the latest WMP version for a Mac. G4 Powerbook OS X Version 10.3.8 Processor 1.33 memory 512 MB.

No tech here. When I download a wmv. file to play, the player plays the file up to, but not always, the halfway point and then goes into a buffer state and then freezes and then closes.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
