I have Windows XP on a 1 year old Dell Laptop. Over the past 2 weeks I had this problem once and then it never happened again. Today it has done it 3 times in 30 minutes and I can't get anything done.

I'm surfing the net and opening Excel and all of a sudden my pc goes to a blue screen with a bunch of white words saying there is a major system error and must restart. This happens very suddenly and you don't even have time to read all of it before it restarts. Then after restart it will open up a window saying there was a "major system error" do you want to send error report, and I do. It then says that it was caused by a hardware driver, but they don't know which one. Under the Getting Help section of the page is says to remove hardware and re-install. Go back to a system saved point, or track the problem. I didn't get a chance to copy the information down before it did it again, but the school wireless network login page took over so I couldn't get the information about the problem again to put on here.

I did add a wireless mouse to my system MONTHS ago. No other hardware added. Sometimes I plug in my printer, camera, and this mouse. I don't know what is causing this "Blue Screen of Death" as I call it. Any programs to install to find out what is wrong?

In safe mode:

Right click MY COMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES, choose ADVANCED, choose the SETTINGS button in the Startup And RECOVERY section, and uncheck AUTOMATICALLY RESTART

Now reboot. This should result in the BSOD error...report the STOP ERROR and any parameters.

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, but that button to uncheck beside Automatic Restart didn't have a check in it when I opened that up.

i don't see anything in that log to suggest any bad ju-ju....not an expert...but...looks ok

start > run, type
eventvwr.msc
<enter>

Look under systems and applications for items with red Xs that happened at the SAME time as your problem...list them here.

I can do that later tonight and get back to you tomorrow. I don't have the re-install disk and I use that as my antivirus. Will get back to you tomorrow if that is ok.
