Alright, I did the Windows File Protection service scan and then rebooted my computer. My services still don't start. Any other ideas? BTW, thanks for the help so far.

Also, did you find a solution for my problem with removing the "250GB HDD" shortcut that's pinned to my start menu?

Hey hey, good news! I felt bad because you were going through all this trouble to help me without any progress, so I decided to whipe my hard drive clean. I just re-installed Windows XP with SP2 and everything is working just fine.

Thanks for all the help, I hope the problems you went through to try and help me taught you some new things about computer so you can better help other people when they need help.

Thanks again,

Ok, maybe that was the best solution! :tazz:

This log looks clean!
  • Don't forget to re-hide all files and folders. To re-hide all files and folders:
    • Open My Computer.
    • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    • Select the View Tab.
    • Under the Hidden files and folders heading deselect "Show hidden files and folders".
    • Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    • Click Yes to confirm.
    • Click OK.
  • This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.

Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.

This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and following the prompts.

Please post back if you are still having any problems....

Yes yes, thank you. I have the latest Windows Update, I use Firefox instead of IE, I have Spybot: Search & Destroy (and keep it updated), I have Ad-Aware SE (and keep it updated), I have SpywareBlaster (and keep it updated), I have AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (it keeps itself updated) and I'm about to install IE-Spyads. Don't worry man, I usually am very careful about what I do on the web. I don't think I'll get infected easily again.

Everything is running smoothly so far, no problems at all. I'm glad a re-installed Windows. One question, though:

I have a hardware firewall/router in my house. It's a Linksys WRT54G, which has a built-in firewall. Do you think I should still get a software firewall (like ZoneAlarm or Sygate), though?

Oh and BTW, the link you gave me for IE-Spyads is outdated. Just so you know, the new link is http://www.spywarewa...uc/resource.htm

Thanks again for all your help,
-jaimejd007

No, a hardware firewall on its own offers enough protection! :)

Thanks! :tazz:
