Can you get to the C: prompt? Is the win 98 you tried an oem or upgrade? Same for the xp?

First, it sounds like the hard drive is completely blank.
Second, the only way I know to tell on the 98 is to put the cd in and see. If it is an upgrade it will tell you you need to have an earlier version installed. I don't know about xp, hate the program. So, when you put in the 98 cd what happens?

Could have. I know my toshiba has all of it's running information behind a partition. Can you run check disk? Scan disk? I know this takes a while, but starting simple is the best way I've found.

I'm not one of the techs on this site, just had my share of experience. Keep looking for help. You might post this under hardware as well since it's sounding more and more like thats what it is. It sounds like bios and such are missing from the machine. Try a restart and hitting f8 to see if you can get to the bios. Run the fdisk again and see if there are any partitions left. Sorry I can't be more help.
