you need to do the update from a computer that is attached to the router...by a cable..not wireless...and follow the steps in the first link that i posted...as the other is only for version 5

yea i know now but why can my brother connect to these things on his computer and i cannot, we are using the same wireless stuff and connected to the same connection...also the 1st link you gave led to another link that is broken

you're connected wirelessly correct? you would need to bring the computer downstairs and hook it directly to the router with an ethernet cable

i'm still hoping that you could try this

-First try connecting directly to the router with an Ethernet or USB cable.

um im not sure what an ethernet cable looks like, would unplugging the ethernet cable have a possibility of screwing up things such as settings, the internet itself and all that?

not really....if your dad's computer is hooked to the router by an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone line...with a fat phone line connector on the ends)..then you could just unplug it from his machine...and hook it to yours...at most you'd have to restart his computer once you plug the cable back in but that would be unlikely to be neccessary
