Computer shuts down

My computer tends to shut itself down without warning after using it for a while, the time between each shutdown varies, but now its doing it quite frequently and im not sure what to do about it. it may or may not be the spy/malware thats on it.

Hello Mosquiton...

I'm no expert when it comes to reading these logs, but I don't see anything there that would cause your machine to shut down.

This actually sounds more like heat or hardware. Have you added any hardware or updated any device drivers recently?

Download Speed Fan (Click on the SpeedFan 4.28 link in the second paragraph), install it, and run it to monitor voltages and temperatures. Please post me the temperatures you see shortly after startup and then the temps after your machine has run for a bit.

Ok...I'm fairly confident that heat is the culprit here. What you need to do is clean the CPU cooler and make sure the fans are spinning up. You will need to open the case for this. Are you comfortable doing that?

If you are uncomfortable inside the case, I would recommend that you take it to a local computer shop and have it cleaned. It really is a pretty easy procedure, though. You would need to purchase a can of compressed air from an Office Supply or computer store, though.

If you'd like to try this yourself, I will be more than happy to post you instructions for doing so.

:tazz: I understand completely...

Power the machine off and unplug it from the power source (wall plug or UPS)

You'll need to remove the left side of the case (or case cover on some machines).

If you have an AMD processor: As you look into the machine, you should see a fan about as big around as a soda can. This is the CPU cooler fan. Just under this fan sits the CPU cooler (finned thingie). This is what we are interested in...it needs to be cleaned as it is probably stuffed with cooties and dust bunnies. You can use a can of compressed air to blow this out (preferred method), or a small paint brush to "sweep" it clean (this would require that you remove the fan...Do Not remove the CPU cooler from the processor). To protect you machine from static dischard, always touch a metal part of the case before reaching in there.

If you have an Intel Processor: You will be looking for a rather large "boxy thing" with one or two fans on it. Clean this the same way as described above.

Once you have done this, plug the machine back in, power up, and see if the temps have come down a bit. Ideally, the temperature that is currenty running 70*+ should be closer to 50*. Post back with the temps after the cleaning has been completed.
