Hey guys,
Like the topic says, my computer used to only take 45 seconds and now it takes about 4 or 5 minutes. The last program I remember installing was a screen refresh rate optimization program called RefreshForce v1.10. I am not sure if the problems starting happening when I used this program or not. Please let me know if you see anything that shouldn't be there. Thanks in advance.

Here is my HiJackThis log:

Hello UVPower :tazz:

One of the main problems is that you have McAfee and AVG both installed and running. They are fighting for power and slowing your system down. You need to uninstall one of them (if McAfee is old or about to run out I would get rid of it and keep AVG - but note that uninstalling McAfee will speed your system up a lot more then uninstalling AVG.. but that's up to you).

Uninstall one of the anti-virus programs, then reboot and post a new HiJackThis log for me to look at :)

Thanks for getting back to me Michelle.

The only reason why I had both of them running at the same time was because in the "You Must Read This Before Posting A Log" it suggested AVG. I just didn't want to waste time by having someone tell me "Run AVG and post a new log". Looks like I still caught the bullet anyways. :tazz:

Anyways, here is my new log....

If you don't have any antivirus software on your system.

Is what it says in that topic where it recommends AVG.. :)

Most of your running processes are McAfee, which isn't surprising :tazz:

The only other unnecessary items I see are these 2:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightLAN 01] "C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe" -l
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightMonitor 01] "C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPMon32.exe"

Both are known to suck down resources pretty good..they can always be started manually if you need them (and that's a big IF)

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Well, I'm glad I could rule out malware as the problem then. I have always been running McAfee for over a year and my problem came up recently. Oh well, I will keep trying to solve this.

Here is my new HJT log, in case your wondering:

This is also not necessary:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCPitstop Optimize Registration Reminder] H:\PC Optimize\Optimize\Reminder.exe

Of course, you can leave it if you want it.

Does it boot up any faster at all?

Did you pay for Ewido? If not, try uninstalling it and see if that helps. Normally more than one anti-spyware program is fine, but since you have McAfee it may not like Ewido.

hmm the only other optional items I see are from NVidia and I know those are not the culrpit and it doesn't appear to be a malware problem so I really don't know what else to tell you about it. :tazz:

Let's try running an online scan to just to check things out.. this scan needs to be done with Internet Explorer and it may take a while to run

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

It appears your DVD player is infected with Ad-Aware..and you have some items in system restore

H:\DVD Player\aiodvdplayer.exe

I would recommend uninstalling the above program but it is not what is causing your computer to startup slowly.

We can clear restore points, that may help a little, but this is not a malware issue.

Alright. I will uninstall my DVD player and this will be my final post. I agree that it doesn't feel like a malware problem. At least now I can rule it out in my search for the real problem. If I eventually figure out what it is (most likely a background program having trouble popping up everything *cough* *cough* McAfee) then I will post back here with the result.

Thanks again for all your help Michelle. I really appreciate it. :tazz:

Sorry I couldn't help more with the problem.

To get rid of those items in system restore, we can clear restore points..

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Good luck and I hope you're able to figure out the problem.. *cough*McAfee*cough* :tazz:
