I tried to install the cd rom for an apple ipod but the software wouldnt download, and it stated I need eitherwindows 2000 sp4 or windows XP. So, I tried to download windows XP from a microsoft link but a message came up stating that the adminstrator wont allow changes to windows 2000 in my computer. Please advise!

you cannot download windows xp--were you trying to download the xp service pack?

Either way, sounds like you are on a windows 2000 computer in a domain, and the administrator has it set up so users cannot install software.

There is nothing you SHOULD do at this point, since you would be violating your companies IT policy by installing software which could result in repercussions

It is vaguely possible that your IT person is unaware that there is a service pack 4 for windows 2000, I suppose, and you could certainly ask your IT department why sp4 is not installed (it might conflict with some software you need to run for work)
