wd1600 sata drivers - Asus A7v8x-LA Board

hi,

Just bought a western digital 160GB sata HDD. Model number is WD1600, have been searching for the drivers with no luck for a while.
I have an Asus A7V8x-LA Motherboard.

I also wish to know if this motherboard supports sata. It has 2 ports, but i'm beginning to think it might not. Its from a compaq system.
Its one of those boards that HP/Compaq use, with no advanced features, so that grannies cant overclock their machines by mistake and then ring up for support :whistling:
All i wanna do really is use my new sata drive, and i'm wondering, can i upgrade the bios at all? and would an Asus A7V8X-MX bios work?
The bios i have is phoenix Award 6.0PG..

This board is based off the A7V8X-MX board, and that board doesn't support SATA, but your A7V8X-LA board does support SATA.

Therefore using the BIOS for the A7V8X-MX board is not recommended as it's firstly incompatible and secondly doesn't support SATA anyway.

Oh nice, good news..

So, does that mean All i need to do, after plugging in my sata drive, is find A7V8X-LA sata drivers?
Or, will i need to find a bios update for my mobo first?
Im kinda new to the process of setting up a sata drive, and where to find stuff...
The thing is, my device manager, or bios both dont recognise the drive even though its plugged in. I understand My Computer wont see it until its formatted...
its what u get with commercialised brand named stuff i spose.....

any chance you could point me in the right direction?

I understand that you dont generally reply before someone else does, but i have fixed my problems, through a fair bit of research..

It would probably be common knowledge to most geekstogo ppl, but, as i found out, my A7V8X-LA mobo only supports sata 1, and my new SataII drive required jumpers to make it run in sataI mode...
As usual, something very simple....

Hope this helps anyone in the future...A good warning too, to anyone considering buying brand name systems, that might want to overclock in the future, or update the bios, be careful, as a lot of the systems ship with a restricted bios, and in most cases, little upgrade options...

Depends if there's anything else to add to the discussion or if anybody has other thoughts. But as no news is good news, you were off in the right direction. Plus your post had fell off the bottom of Page 2 and I'd been off the board for a while and don't generally go back beyond Page 2 as a rule... :whistling:
