Every time I launch explorer it goes to the website www.quicknavigate.com and tells me that my computer has been infected with the stealthsws.14.h!dll trojan.

Here is a copy of the Hijack this log. Please help. Thanks.

Hello,

* Download Killbox. (make sure you have this version!!)
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp7CC9.tmp
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmon.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
C:\Windows\system32\shnlog.exe

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Your computer must reboot now.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

* Download, install, and run CleanUp!

* Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

Hello,

You hijackthislog looks clean again. Well done!

Now we have to deal with some files now...

Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\WINDOWS\win32.bmp
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Your Scanner.url
C:\WINDOWS\System32\perfcii.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp784A.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\win32.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp7818.tmp

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together if the files are present!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Your computer must reboot now.

Perform a full scan with an updated Adaware SE and/or Spybot S&D to get rid of the leftovers.
If you don't have those programs yet, you can find the downloadlocations in my sig.

How are things running? How is your desktop looking? Can you change your wallpapers again?

Edit.. You forgot to answer my question in a previous post. Do you have Spybot s&d? If so, most probably your sdhelper was active before, so we need to restore that.

Yes I have Spybot S&D

I ran KillBox as instructed and then Adware, S&D. They came back clean.
I re-ran Panda Active Scan and there are still viruses present

Hi,

Panda is also finding registrykeys.
Normally spybot and adaware take care of those regkeys. If both come up clean -- you don't have to worry then.

Hmm.. panda still finds some files I let you killbox before.
Could you check if following files are still present?

C:\WINDOWS\win32.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp7818.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp784A.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfcii.ini

If so, delete them. If you're having troubles with them to delete them, try in safe mode.

Your logs still looks clean though. How are things running in general now?

Oh, by the way.. I forgot to restore your sdhelper.

Open notepad and copy and paste next content in the white field in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4 in it)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7}]

Save this as fix.reg choose to save as all files and doubleclick on it. If it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok

I tried deleting those files again using KillBox and ran Panda Active Scan again. It looks better. Should I try to delete the hhk.dll file?

yes, delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhk.dll :tazz:

I thought I already gave you the link where you could download sdhelper to place it back in your spybot s&d folder -- seems like I didn't

SDHelper.dll:

Download SDHelper.dll.
Place the file in the Spybot Search & Destroy-folder. Most probably, this ist C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Kaspersky online and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
