Hello,

I have recently discovered my PC running alot slower than it previoulsy did and also, anytime I restart the computer, the found new hardware wizard appears.... but I havent installed any hardware, this is on a Sony Vaio PCV1/G (however, my Giga Pocket TV viewer software has now stopped working).

I have followed the advice in the You Must Read This section, which I must admit, opened my mind alot and has already helped alot... Thanks!!
I have ran several different scanning tools listed, and found and removed lots of different offending items, however I am not sure they are all gone. Thanks for your help.
Ok, I live in 1 country and work in another.... unfortunatly during this week, my wife attempted to fix the pc also. The computer would not start for her, so she went in via safe mode and ended up deleting McAfee from the msconfig start up out of frustration and then the pc was able to start. As a result, she attempted to uninstall McAfee, removing most of it (some would not uninstall) and the instaled AVG.

On my return, I followed your suggestions, however the PC will still not start correctly. I have to go into Safe mode and use Msconfig then uncheck any McAfee items listed and then do a restart. My found new hardware wizard still appears.

Here is my Highjackthis log, made whilst running in Msconfig (selective start mode).

Any further help would be greatfully appreciated.

What I'd like you to do is the leave the Mcafee entries checvked in msconfig and fix them using HijackThis.

If you are not sure how or which ones let me know, but they should show up looking like this:

Hi,

OK, I went into MSConfig and checked the 3 McAfee items, then rebooted the system... and to my surprise, it started up (instead of needing to go into Safe mode).
I then ran HighJackThis and ticked the 3 McAfee items shown in the highjackthis log, selected fix and then rebooted. Again, the pc started.

The system appears to be starting slightly quicker than before, however the "Found New Hardware Wizard" is still popping up as soon as the system starts..... and my gigapocket TV viewer software still does not work.
I see some entries in the highjackthis log, which show a missing file..... could they be the problem?

Your help has been fantastic so far, is there anything else you can suggest?

No. Your log looks good now. HijackThis sometimes reports files as missing when they aren't.
One of it's rare flaws.

Please rightclick My Computer on the desktop.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.
See if you can find any question or exclamation marks.

If any, let me know what they stand for.

Hi,

Here is what is shown in device manager:
? Other Devices
-?! Multimedia Video Controller

On the properties for this it shows the following:
The device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall driver.

This device is used for the TV viewing, however this was installed from the factory... I have never installed any hardware on this PC. When I click reinstall driver, I am (windows) is, unable to locate the driver.
