1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Once the Registry Editor opens, please do the following:

• Highlight My Computer
  
• From the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP.
  
• Choose Desktop as the destination
  
• Under Export Range, choose "ALL"
  
• Use Sysreg as the file name
  
• Click Save and EXIT the Registry Editor once the operation is completed
  
• To verify that the export was successful, you should see a "blue cube icon" on your desktop named Sysreg.reg

If a restore of the registry is required, just click on the exported regfile on your desktop, and answer YES to the question whether you want to merge this file with the registry. Wait until you get a message saying something like Merge Successful.

2. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste everything in the codebox below into the new document, including the word REGEDIT4. Go up to "File Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files" and save it to your desktop as fixme.reg.

We must disable Spy Sweeper for it may interfere with our fix

To disable SpySweeper:

• Open SpySweeper, click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
• Over to the left, click "shields" and uncheck all there.
• Uncheck "home page shield".
• Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction

Now, please try both regfixes again, one at a time to see if SpySweeper was interfering with the fix.

You did fine. I think those registry entries are being held there through some feature of your AOL anti-spyware protection. Could you try to disable it for the fix. I can't help you there unfortunately.

Would you please describe, in as much detail as possible, what EXACTLY appears on your screen and when.
This info will help some of our Windows experts better pinpoint the problem, hopefully.

Okay, when I boot up, I log on to Windows with a password.

Then it opens and McAfee shows as well as Frontier Net (my DSL provider).

Then SYSTEM 32 folder opens with a bunch of folders inside it like:
conime.exe, command.com, zxdnt3d.cfg
ETC

Then AOL spyware runs at the bottom of the screen.

By the way, if you are using McAfee, the AOL stuff is doing more harm than good. Please read the following comments by Swandog46, one of the most respected mmbers of the malware fighting community:

I notice that you are using more than one antivirus program. This is very dangerous, as multiple AVs can interfere with one another and actually allow MORE viruses to get through. I strongly suggest you either (1) configure only one antivirus program to enable automatic realtime scanning, and leave the rest disabled most of the time, or (2) go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all but one antivirus program

I would keep McAfee (which I don't like) over that AOL stuff. (So I guess that tells you what I think of the AOL capabilities)
