Hello,
Can anyone tell me if a usb cable can go bad? I have a HP 4200c scanjet that does't work. I changed usb ports and still no luck. It won't evan take the cd setup disk. At one point it made a grinding noise, and thats when it stopped running.

Also, can you tell me how I can perform a quick restore, to the same settigs that I was running a day or two ago or just a few hours before?
Thanks,
John :tazz:

But of course - any type of cable can go bad for any type of reason.

As for Quick Restore - if you had Windows ME or XP, you could have used system restore. A feature which isn't available under 98SE.

Which made the grinding noise, the HP printer or the CD-ROM drive? :tazz:

Can you explain a little more about : "It won't evan take the cd setup disk" ? Are you having problems re-installing the printer software or has the cd drive failed.

If the printer made the grinding noise, was it printing at the time (may be jammed), did it give any error messages, etc.???

The HP scanner made the grinding noise. Having problems reinstalling the scanner CD Software. The CD Drive works fine. No error messages.
Wasn't scanning at the time. The computer was booting up when the scanner started to made the noise. Also I noticed a''Yellow ?" in the device manager. I had disconnected the scanner from my system and deleted it from"ADD\ REMOVE" before I tried to reinstall. When the steps from the CD came up to install, I clicked on the steps one at a time, but didn't seem to do anything........(Using a HP ScanJet 4200C.)

As far as trying to get information to do a restore-----I'm running Windows 98se.......

Also, what color scheem is best---16 Bit---32 Bit---256 Bit---High Color or True Color...

Thanks,
John
