I'm stumped. The file doesn't seem to have the Microsoft certificate anymore. so obviously its been changed

Follow the directions below for submitting the C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe file

http://www.thespykil...x.php?topic=5.0

Include a brief description of the problem and a link back to this thread

Let me know when you have done this

Try this scan

Please run this online virus scan:
Panda Active Scan You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here. Also post a new Hijack log

Hi tom

Can you try again to upload the file. It was 0 bytes. Turn your firewall off when you try again. Or do what you did to get the Jotti scan to workwhen you upload the file

There are just a couple leftovers in the panda scan as well as a few tracking cookies

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\perfcii.ini
C:\WINDOWS\n_aihvqr.dat

Run the Atf cleaner and set it up to clean everything again and that will clear the cookies

Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as fix.reg (set Filetype to "All Files") and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CCACCESS.CHECKCONTROL]

Now Locate and DoubleClick fix.reg-> Allow it to merge into the Registry!

Tom out of curiosity what is this c:\FTW

I tried uploading the winlogon.exe file again. Both times, I just double-clicked on it in System32 and it appeared to drop in. If it doesn't work, should I copy it to the desktop first?

I ran the ATF scan to clear the cookies and copied the registry code to Notebook and transferred it in.

FTW is Family Tree Maker, a genealogy program.

I haven't heard from the other website. They probably got another empty file. I can no longer copy/paste the file onto the desktop, what I did to send it to Jotti's. Any word from McAfee? This is looking like I'm going to have to reload Windows. I'm getting worn down. If I am, then you are for sure. Any last minute ideas?

Tom

PS: What's your first name?

Loophole:

Good news. I was finally able to copy the file to the desktop and upload it to the SpyKiller Website. For a while, I couldn't boot into safe mode. I finally did tonight and was able to copy the file. Before, I kept getting an "Access Denied" message. Just for the [bleep] of it, I ran it through Jotti's again. Here's the report. I hope these guys at SpyKiller can tell us something useful. Do they usually tell you what it is and how to clear it?Tom
