iTunes Problem? wont install

hi i am trying to install itunes but it wont install. Wen i try to install itunes 6 i get the error 1406. Wen i install itunes 4.9 i get the error--"iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes" obviously i tried that and it didnt work so can somebody please help me?
