As long as you choose repair ® as per the guide it will be the same as any install, and will ask at the same point

You won't repair it without a CD

If you do not have an XP CD then you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD

You need to use your product key, not the one from the borrowd disc

I have downloaded version of sp2 guess i dont do the repairs right or am i missing some here.

i think i wont be able to do it without xp cd With service pack 1

ummmmm,We bought the computer from tv ad it was advertised so thats how that came about. But i never really new any thing about computers but we kept all cds that came with it microsoft suite or works.what should the next move be

I got DELL WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL WITH SERVICE PACK 1A at home it WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION .
Think that will do.

Windows XP SP1a is the same as Windows XP SP1 except that the Microsoft virtual machine (VM) is removed in SP1a.
