Hello,

found this forum after looking for detailed Windows 98 installation guides without support.

This is for a course i am doing. Either way i have to find the info one way or another, so after searching for ages, i come here for help.

Q ) After applying power to VDU, to a PC with nowt else on it with floppy boot disk thing in the FDD, what is the first screen displayed? there are two options, right?

The book tells me when prompted, select option 2...which is install windows 98 without CD-ROM support.

Is there a drive C? no :tazz:

it says...

At the A:\> prompt type C:
At the C:\> prompt type dir.

It then asks me to list the files displayed on the screen, then asks me to explain why there is a drive C with no system files on it.

It asks after a few other questions;

State the size of the formatted drives using the dir command.

Any help given, i will be really, really grateful. Its a hardware course btw. I do not have the money to go buy a cheapy PC and try this out myself. I was told, to find out anyway possible the answers, considering its windows 98 and such.

Thanks!

I'm not quite sure at which point you are looking for files on c:.

Prior to step 7(in the excellent reference), there are no files on c:.
reason - the drive has just been partitioned and there are no files present.

If dir is done in step 8 just before A>D:\WIN98\setup, the only file listed is command.com.
reason - c: is now formatted and has command.com and 2 hidden files present.

I suppose the installation is variable? I can send of the finished assessment, if its not right it gets sent back to me anyway. There are 8 boxes for the file listing question, so when looking for a good hour on the internet and i couldnt find anything, i was really confused.

Thank you anyway! I am using the reference from this site, so far its being very helpful.
