Mate, i applaude your enthusiasm !.....


Booting from cdrom, into setup, try repair, L to locate ERD/Installation.
same error, need ERD to repair.

Should i run the chkdsk /r again ?

Yep, all of those until i press L to locate, and then it says Setup cannot find a Windows 2000 installation to repair.

go back to the recovery console and type fixmbr

ok, ran that ok.

the bootmanager screen at the beginning has gone now.

i'm going back into setup to run repair and L to locate....

i'll edit in a min with the results...........gulp!

cant find win2k installation to repair.

sonofamonkey...apparently without the ERD this ain't gonna jive...the windows install seems to be too badly corrupted...two options

take the drive out and hook it up as a slave in the machine you're posting from, copy off all your data (music, pictures, documents)...format the drive and start from scratch..

OR

do a parallel install and remove the corrupted one...

guessed it would end up this way.

Would like to thank you for your help and time.
Makes the Internet a usefull thing.

I think i'll have to completly re install !!
As i cant take the drive out , and connect to this laptop.

I'll let you know how i get on.
