The following error appears when trying to start Firefox:

The MSVCRT.DLL is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL:RtlGetNtVersionNumbers.

How do I solve this?

Thanks,
dlw

here's microsoft's suggestion

Windows 98
To repair a Windows 98 operating system, you must boot the computer to a command prompt by using a startup disk. Next, manually replace MSVCRT.dll in the C:\Windows\System folder with a copy of the file from the Windows 98 CD or with a copy of the file from a computer that is successfully running Windows 98.

you might also try reinstalling firefox

Was not successful in uninstalling Firefox via 'Control Panel'.
When I clicked on 'Firefox' then 'Install/Remove' the hour glass opened.
Ran for a bit but 'Firefox' is still there.
When trying to install 'Firefox' over the old one the MSVCRT.DLL erroro pops up again.

How do you copy the file from the W98 install CD?
It's not listed and is probably buried in one of the '.cab' files.

Thanks,
dlw

you could put the 98 cd in the drive and do a file search on the drive for the file...try searching for MSVCRT*.* (the * are wild cards so it will find any file that matches..i suspect that the file may be hidden on the cd and labled as MSVCRT.dl_ )

Both 'msvcrt.dll and ntdll' are on the W98 CD.
They are also in \windows\system.
It appears the files are not the problem but the linking is.

I'm wondering if reinstalling W98 my solve the problem.

Should you get this error when using IE, I sent the error to Microsoft and followed the information tab from the confirmation they sent me. Told me how to restore the dll perfectly.
