Hi, playsoldier3 :whistling:

In your position I would remove those programs from the computer, then attempt to delete this file and fix the Hijackthis lines.

You can always reinstall these programs once done.

Ok, i have removed spyblaster or something, removed windows defender, removed spybot, my spysweeper, when you said in the post there was an option to uncheck called "restore default without notification" or something similar to that, but i couldnt find that button there.... :whistling: , another attempt to use killbox to kill it it just keeps coming back, could my norton be blocking it?

Hi JSntgRvr has asked me to take a look at this one for him

It looks like the inetinfo.exe is protecting itself from being deleted so lets bring out the big guns to kill it off

I'm not sure if you already have ATF cleaner or not but if you do then use teh existing copy don't download a new copy

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the quote box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetinfo.exe

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.
when it reboots

Run hijackthis, put a tick in the box beside these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [inetinfo] C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetinfo.exe

then

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

then tell me how many users you have on this computer & if more than one run atf cleaner under every user account

post a fresh HJT log please

what has happened with avenger is that there has been a blank line inserted by the forum software in the quote box & avenger is misreading that

use this as the script

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetinfo.exe

make sure that when you paste the entries in there is no blank line above the "files to delete:" line

we can sort out teh browser background afterwards that should be simple & is probably Norton playing up
